In Praise of Thursdays

Where I live, the lawn mower's roar wakes me on Thursdays. The neighbor's gardeners come early and are my alarm clock for this day.

Thursdays are Turkey Day at the company cafeteria. For $5 I get an entree and three sides.

...Pay day. When the Direct Deposit hits my bank and there is a "transaction pending" next to my account.

...when they change the security guard over at Little E.'s day care.

...the anchor of my week. Stable, perdictable. I don't need or ask that every day to be like this, but a couple more days like Thursdays would make my week.

The Reverse Discrimination Method of Voting '06

"Farther away were the wars of terror, the gunmen in love with the sound of their shells, where the main purpose of war had become war." -- Anil's Ghost, M. Ondaatje.

Q: What is the difference between the Republicans and Democrats?

Sounds like the beginning of a bad joke, right? My point exactly.

Candidates: Maybe it's time to give the Greens and Libertarians a chance.

Propositions: If it costs money, I vote: NO.

The 40 odd Judge Appointments: No way I have the time to research all these people. I'm sure either of the two judges vying for each are qualified and will do a good job, but I have to pick one. So I do this:
  • I pick the ethnic name.
  • I pick the female candidate.
  • If the above two steps fail me, I flip a coin.
I did my due diligence. Total time spent on Election '06: 90 minutes. (That's including this post.)

Meaning #1: Radio Moment

I'm driving down the road, window down wind blowing in my hair. A song comes on the radio. I can't remember which, but it's one I haven't heard in awhile. One of my favorites.

I'm groovin'. Shaking my head.

I get to the house, pull up into the driveway. The music's still blasting, and I'm still sitting there, in the car, enjoying the music.

I need more moments like this. If I string enough of them, I shall have lived a meaningful life. Or so the theory goes.
